PocketPal by Wandera Labs
Terms of Service
Effective January 30, 2026. Last updated September 27, 2026.
Personal use only
PocketPal is licensed to you for personal, non-commercial use — copying, reverse engineering, or reselling the app isn't allowed.
Account and legacy recovery
Current general backups use Google-account recovery. Older backups may still need their original passphrase.
Premium bills through Google Play
Subscriptions auto-renew and are managed entirely from your Google Play account.
No guarantees, no financial advice
PocketPal is a budgeting tool, not a financial advisor — the app is provided as-is.
A fair path if there's a dispute
We start with a conversation, then mediation, before anything goes to arbitration or court in Nairobi.
Acceptance & license
Agreeing to these terms
By downloading, installing, or using PocketPal ("the App"), you agree to be bound by these Terms of Service ("Terms"). If you don't agree, please don't use the App.
These Terms are a legal agreement between you ("User" or "you") and B.E. Wandera Labs ("we," "us," or "our"). PocketPal Budget & Expense ("PocketPal") is developed by B.E. Wandera Labs and presented publicly under the Wandera Labs brand.
Your license to use PocketPal
We grant you a limited, non-exclusive, non-transferable, revocable license to use PocketPal for personal, non-commercial purposes, subject to these Terms.
You may NOT:
- Copy, modify, or create derivative works of the App
- Reverse engineer, decompile, or disassemble the App
- Remove or alter any copyright or proprietary notices
- Use the App for any illegal or unauthorized purpose
- Sell, rent, lease, or sublicense the App to third parties
Your account, your responsibility
Signing in
To use cloud backup features, you'll sign in with a Google account. You're responsible for:
- Keeping your Google account credentials confidential
- All activity that occurs under your account
- Protecting account access and retaining any passphrase still required by an older backup
- Current general backups are associated with your signed-in Google account and support account-based recovery
- Older passphrase-protected backups may require the original passphrase before they can be restored or migrated
- Keep any legacy passphrase until you have confirmed a successful restore and new backup
- Recovery is not guaranteed if the required account, passphrase or backup is unavailable; Google account recovery is managed by Google
Keeping your account secure
Please notify us immediately at bewanderalabs@gmail.com if you suspect unauthorized access to your account.
What we ask you not to do
Using PocketPal, you agree not to:
- Use the App to violate any local, state, national, or international law
- Transmit any viruses, malware, or harmful code
- Attempt to gain unauthorized access to our servers or systems
- Interfere with other users' enjoyment of the App
- Use automated systems (bots, scripts) to access the App
- Misrepresent your identity or affiliation
Your data, and PocketPal Premium
Data & privacy
Your use of the App is also governed by our Privacy Policy. The policy explains how information is handled and the choices available for connected features.
Key points:
- General cloud backups are encrypted before upload using AES-256-GCM; this is not a zero-knowledge or end-to-end-encryption guarantee against the service operator
- Current general backups are stored in Firebase; Notebook sync and older general backups use your Google Drive app-data area
- Household sharing, diagnostics, ads and optional AI have separate data flows explained in the Privacy Policy
- We do not sell your personal information
Premium features
PocketPal Premium is optional. The features and purchase types available to you are shown in the app and Google Play before purchase. Benefits include:
- An ad-free experience
- Advanced analytics and reports
- Premium themes
Billing
- Premium purchases are billed through the Google Play Store
- Subscription prices and billing periods are shown at checkout; any one-time offer is identified separately
- Subscriptions renew unless cancelled before renewal under the terms shown by Google Play; a one-time purchase is not a recurring subscription
- You can manage or cancel your subscription any time in your Google Play Store account settings
Refunds
Refunds depend on the purchase, your region, applicable law and Google Play's refund policy. In general:
- Within 48 hours, you may be eligible to request a refund from Google Play depending on the purchase details; approval is not guaranteed
- After 48 hours, contact us at bewanderalabs@gmail.com about eligibility or purchase issues
- Applicable consumer rights are not limited by this summary

Backups & data loss
We provide cloud backup features, but you acknowledge and agree that:
- You're responsible for maintaining regular backups of your own data
- We're not liable for data loss due to:
- Loss of account access or a required legacy passphrase
- Device failure or loss
- Firebase or Google Drive service interruptions
- Network connectivity issues
- Uninstalling the App without backing up first
- Current recovery requires access to the correct account and a usable backup; older backups may also require their original passphrase
Ending things, and updates to these Terms
If you want to stop using PocketPal
You can stop using the App at any time by:
- Uninstalling the App from your device
- Requesting account-linked data and Firebase backup deletion through support, and removing any Drive copies separately
- Signing out and clearing your local data
If we need to step in
We reserve the right to suspend or terminate your access to the App if you:
- Violate these Terms
- Engage in fraudulent or illegal activity
- Abuse or misuse the App
Changes to these Terms
If we modify these Terms, we will:
- Update the "Last Updated" date at the top of this page
- Provide notice of material changes as required by applicable law
- Treat your continued use of the App after changes as acceptance of the new Terms
If you don't agree with the modified Terms, please stop using the App.
Third-party services
The App integrates with a few third-party services:
Google Drive
Notebook sync and legacy general backup recovery
Firebase
Authentication, general backups, household sharing, receipts, messaging, analytics and crash reporting

Used for advertisements
Google Play Billing, optional Gemini features, device speech recognition and exchange-rate providers are also described in the Privacy Policy. Your use of these services is subject to their own terms and policies. We're not responsible for their availability or performance.
The formal bits
Intellectual property
All intellectual property rights in the App — including its software code, design, graphics, and user interface, the "PocketPal" trademarks and logos, and its documentation and materials — are owned by B.E. Wandera Labs or our licensors. Using the App doesn't give you any ownership rights over it.
Governing law & dispute resolution
These Terms are governed by the laws of Kenya, without regard to conflict-of-law principles. If a dispute ever comes up, here's the path we'll follow:
- Informal negotiation — contact us at bewanderalabs@gmail.com so we can try to resolve it directly.
- Mediation — if that doesn't resolve things, the dispute goes to mediation in Nairobi, Kenya.
- Arbitration or litigation — anything still unresolved is handled by arbitration or the courts of Nairobi, Kenya.
Severability
If any part of these Terms is found invalid or unenforceable, the rest will continue in full force and effect.
Entire agreement
These Terms, together with our Privacy Policy, make up the entire agreement between you and B.E. Wandera Labs regarding the App.
